Rugby cleats for artificial turf and 3G pitches

More U.S. rugby is played on artificial grass every season, but very little rugby-specific footwear is built for it. Here is what our verified catalog contains for AG and FG/AG — and what it doesn't.

The short answer

Every artificial-ground (AG) or multi-ground (FG/AG) product in our current verified U.S. catalog is football-derived. If you choose "rugby-specific only" together with artificial turf, the finder will return no strong verified match — that is an honest gap in the catalog, not an error.

How the surface gate works for turf

When you select artificial ground, the finder only considers products listed as AG or FG/AG. Soft-ground boots with long or metal studs never appear, even if they score well elsewhere. If you play on both firm natural grass and turf, choosing the FG+AG combination narrows results to products explicitly rated FG/AG.

If you split time between soft natural grass and turf (SG+AG), the finder recommends two pairsrather than pretending one boot can do both. Read why in SG vs FG vs AG.

Metal studs and turf

None of the AG or FG/AG products in our catalog uses metal studs, and the finder excludes metal-stud products whenever you say metal is not allowed or you're not sure. Many artificial pitches restrict stud types; check the venue's rules. Our metal-stud rules guide covers what to confirm.

Choosing between the turf options

The finder separates these products mainly on playing demand and fit feel:

Turf checklist

  • Confirm the pitch is artificial grass and what footwear the venue permits.
  • Prefer products explicitly labeled AG or FG/AG by the manufacturer.
  • Don't assume a soft-ground rugby boot is acceptable on turf.
  • If you also play on soft natural grass, plan for a second pair.
  • Re-check prices on the source page; ours are dated and may change.

Wide feet on turf

None of the current AG or FG/AG products lists a wide option. If width is your main concern, read rugby cleats for wide feet and consider whether a firm-ground wide option is acceptable at your venue.
